Neighborhood Alert: Your Community’s Connection
Neighborhood Alert is a digital platform bridging the gap between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. Our platform empowers police forces to collect data by conducting surveys, understand local issues, and deliver personalized safety alerts to residents.
Currently, residents rely on emails or visiting police websites for updates. To enhance engagement and provide a more convenient experience, we’re developing a dedicated mobile app.
In this blog post, I will critically evaluate our Neighborhood Alert platform to identify areas for improvement and uncover growth opportunities.
Current user experience and challenges for registered and non-registered members.
Now, residents can register to NA platform via product website or their local police website. Once they’ve done it they can adjust their preferences on what type of alerts they would like to get. Our annual National survey revealed that members find the platform useful and alerts they get are timely and relevant (reference). However, they seek for specific information like local team contacts, crime prevention events on local police pages. The expressed need to know on what concerns their neighbourhood is living in gives us an another signal that all these desires can be addressed from central source – NA mobile App. None of the less is important to emphasis these benefits to increase more registrations.
To create a successful mobile app we need to focus on user needs and addressing their challenge.
Registered Members:
- What are the primary goals of registered members? (e.g., staying informed about local safety, connecting with police, reporting incidents)
- What challenges do they face in using the current platform? (e.g., difficulty accessing information, limited customization options)
Non-Registered Members:
What are the barriers preventing non-registered members from using the platform? (e.g., lack of awareness, complexity of registration process)- What would motivate them to register and use the platform?
- You should critically define user goals and challenges.
The competitor field
- You should identify an opportunity / gap / issue in the organisation’s digital offering by conducting competitor analysis.
Audience analysis
- You should justify the scope of your work by conducting target audience research, including but not limited to user demographics, geolocation, devices and OS (operating system) used.
Our Research Aims:
- Understand User Preferences: Identify the most valued features and functionalities for our target audience.
- Assess User Experience: Evaluate the ease of use and navigation of existing similar apps.
- Analyze User Behavior: Understand how residents interact with community platforms and identify patterns.
- Differentiate Our App: Discover unique features to set our app apart from competitors.
